Cutex Sweet Pea + rhinestones

This is one of a range of 6 autumnal colours. No idea when Cutex produced these. Still available on ebay and I rather like them.

I love sludgy, murky, muddy, dirty greens. This is no exception. 2 coats of creme formula goodness. Simple. Unspectacular. Reliable. Cheap.

Pity it doesn't have a sweet pea fragrance as I adore sweet peas. But there's Acqua di Gio for that. Although I have sadly run out.

Maybe I should grow sweet peas this year. 2 snags.

A I have brown fingers and kill plant-life just by looking at it


B Our soil is thick clay

Other than that it should all go swimmingly. I would love a beautiful garden. I did once have one when I had a dutiful husband to carry out my instructions (ie do the donkey-work).

Dear old Cutex...

Does this model look like Nicole Kidman or is it just me?

Maybe it is just me.


BUT before you run away with the idea that Cutex can't do funky. From the Sixties. Maybe early 70s. A bit pale and shimmery but  it does show there's more to Cutex than just pink/red. Cheeky hat. Love it.

Cutex Huckleberry + Sweet Pea

So let me take you back in time to yesterday. All my troubles ....
Anyway. I have 2 Cutex polishes. They used to be a huge name and I suppose they've just been taken over/merged/whatever. I research old polish ads and there's more Cutex out there from days gone by than any other brand. So 2 ads coming up.

I got these particular babies because the OPI Hong Kong collection came out and I was looking for dusty greens and blues. Now these are no dupes of Jade is the New Black or the blue one (can't remember the name) from that collection. They were cheap and available so I got them. You can't sue me for it!

Now the ads. Cutex from the 60s. 

This one also features a man. Far distance in sort-of Gone with the Wind clinch. But this woman is a bit more feisty than yesterday's hat-lady. Look at the sexual innuendo in this one! Or is that just me? She'd bite his whatsit off as soon as look at him. 

The previous girl was all Marilyn and this one is more Bardot. I know this isn't polish btw. It's for lippie but you can see her hands so it counts. In my world. Again, quite a challenging gaze. But the companies would have had to have reconciled customers' continuing demand for cosmetics with the growing awareness of feminism and the Women's Liberation movement. So they had to portray more assertive-looking women. That's my interpretation. I think I feel a thesis coming on...


Simple question for today. Which ad appeals to you more?
Plus - have you ever questioned your cosmetics-habit? From the POV of is it what you should be doing with your time/money? Does it make you a half-wit? Or maybe that's just the chemicals. Who's to know?

Greens - Nubar Reclaim, Cutex Sweet Pea, Hot Looks Ninja, BB Couture Redwood Forest

I had some new greens and I wanted to try them/compare them.

Reclaim 2 coats - why don't I do a whole mani of this??? a lovely holo
Cutex Sweet Pea - 2 swift coats and a stray bit of sparkle - dirty creme
Collection 2000 Ninja - creme 3 coats, a bit streaky
BB Couture Redwood Forest - you have to see this IRL, jelly dark green with blue glass fleck, just get it, I am a huge fan of BB so I'll say that you should get everything they make! 2 coats - no need for more, perfect in 2

The pic washes out the Cutex a bit. I have never seen these swatched which is a very great shame. They do a dirty blue creme also (Huckleberry) which appears to be one of a range of 6 autumnal colours. They include Cider and Eggplant. I don't have those but I mean to acquire more. Cutex used to make lots of shades in days gone by. Perhaps they were merged or taken over by some other corporate giant. Who's to know?

The moral of this posting is: on the whole you get what you pay for. There are caveats to this and I'm sure we could all think of exceptions.
