A fail with Hits Speciallita Tango Flocado and Fantasy Fire

Dammit, I even used tip guides! I was just messing about though. I didn't have too high hopes...
How to waste some good polish on a botched job. I'm an expert at that.

Berlin in 2010

 

Mavala Berlin topped with a FlorMar and then Nubar 2010. Only ever so slightly washed-out by the flash. Really loving this Mavala grey.

Wish things weren't named after specific years though. Whatever happened to 1984? I could never reread the book now. And 2001? One of my favourite films but the actual 2001 was such a sore disappointment that even that is now somewhat spoiled.

You see, I was born in 1955 and when I was small I thought of 2000 as the science-fiction-future. After all, I'd be 45. Forty-whole-five! I really believed we'd all be time-travelling. I looked at Dr Who and Star Trek (and indeed 2001:Space Odyssey) as pretty firm predictions. I was thoroughly convinced I'd have a small aircraft/vehicle of my own - very much like Fifth Element.  We all know the rather pedestrian reality. 

How horribly off-topic I have strayed. What I really want to know is this. What flakies are available in the UK apart from the Nubar and GOSH Rainbow? I have Barielle Elle's Spell and a Kinetic with flakies but surely there have to be some others. It's driving me nuts!

i.e. Models Own Utopia + GOSH Rainbow mattified with Boots 17.

I am completely gaga for this combo of flakies + matte.
Good thing I have a back-up of Rainbow as I haven't seen it in Superdrug for a while.
I also have Nubar 2010 though so I should be OK for a while.

What are your essential back-up polishes?

Matte flakies are better than shiny flakies..

Well, that's what I think. I put GOSH Rainbow over the 2true to disguise the bubbles. Then I put matte over one nail just to see the effect.

Eureka! Glossy shine distracts from the flakies. Matte enhances them. QED.

This is a post-industrial sci-fi alienation counter-culture mani.

Kinetics Butterfly Wing Velvet

 

3 coats. This is another Wunderkind of a Kinetics polish. The quality of these is superb. Metallic brown with gold/amber flakies.

Topshop Gypsy Night

1 of a set of 3 x 6 ml bottles. But I must have immediate emergency back-up. Express delivery. US cavalry. Military outriders. Presidential escort. (Don't know why I've gone all gung-ho Bruce Willis meets John Wayne all of a sudden but this polish is HUGE.) The other 2 polishes are probably lovely too btw.

3 coats. Is it brown or black or olive-brown? Don't care. Is the glitter brilliantly integrated? Yes. Are there flakies in there? Could be.

A bit too much of the ol' flash but those look like flakies to me.

Women of Britain, buy this polish. Swatch it on your lovely nails. And get some blinding pictures posted. Thank you.

Barielle Elle's Spell - a day's wear

What a rubbish day! I usually love my work (teacher) but today was bl00dy awful. Plus my mobile does not appear to be making or receiving calls plus plus plus.....On the good side daughter 2 rang to say she is OK after I read on her facebook that she had had lots of pills from the doctor! Kids, eh?

Oh, yes. Nail polish. I really like this one. End of.

AND I hate Children in Need and Comic Relief and all that forced jollity alternating with dreary violins. You have to be in the UK to know what I'm on about. And I wish I could exchange places if you're somewhere else.

Not that I'm curmudgeonly or anything. Much.

OPI Pamplona Midnight (sounds better than Merry Purple)

Started with 2 coats (should have been 3) of Pamplona Purple.
Then ring finger had 1 coat Merry Midnight.
Middle had 2 and index 3.

So it's a very subtle (boring/ineffective) gradient.
The idea was to layer MM over something and thus reduce the amount of MM I used (it being more sheer than I'd imagined).
But I ended up with 5 coats of polish on one finger! Hope it dries.

I'm purple-potty at present. A few months ago I thought I was permanently off purple and nearly cleared my stash of purple. Glad I didn't.

Is there one colour you can live without/never bother with or even outright HATE?

Nubar 2010

Layered over the Missguided freebie. The one from Cosmo - not the one in the photo. That's Misschievous. (You see what they did there?)
This really shows the orange/gold aspect of the flakies.

And then over OPI Barefoot In Barcelona.

Look at the bottle! The Nubar shows green/orange/red over paler polishes like this.

I have GOSH Rainbow too and they are analogues. Nubar is more expensive but nail-polish-ownership has as much to do with availability and supply as it does with demand. So Nubar may be ten a penny in ....Sumatra. And GOSH isn't sold in................Timbuktu.

I now have all 6 Missguided polishes. They are beautifully packaged/presented.

Oh, yes. Mischievous. That's the correct spelling btw.
There seems to have arisen a misconception that this may be pronounced mis-CHEE-VEE-us.
No, it's MIS-chiv-us. No debate. No negotiation. Wherever in the Anglophone world you may be it's....what I just said.

Orly Not So Dusty Rose and GOSH Rainbow

All the US bloggers are showing Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. Yes?
Are we to be out-flakied? No.


This started with an orphan polish of mine. More about orphans some other time.
My first Orly - Not So Dusty Rose. 
I mucked about my layering with the Revlon so that had to go.
Bring on the untried Orly.
2 coats. Creme. Great. But I made a dent on the thumb-nail so I had to do something.
When in doubt, go GOSH.

I love the bottle pic of this because it does look fierce!

You pass over a bunch of GOSH and Rainbow looks like it might be a standard glitter topcoat. 

I love the way it can reveal green. gold, copper, blue .......blah de blah...

I tried to show its red properties in my pix but didn't succeed.

Believe me though, it flashes red over the Orly and I haven't seen that side of it before.

This shows the Orly. Trouble is my teeny hands can't get anywhere near round a bottle of polish. I enhanced the colour on this but I'm not sure that I should have. It is maybe looking too warm.

This is love. It's very cool and flatters my gnarled and ancient hands.

I'm not saying I'd spurn Hidden Treasure. I'd like to see a comparison. Can anyone out there do that, please? Rainbow v Hidden Treasure?

Sinful UFO over the existing Asteroid

UFO and Hottie

Putting the UFO over the Asteroid warmed the pink which was looking too cool in the previous pix

The middle has GOSH Rainbow rather than Sinful UFO and remained cool with the GOSH adding some gold flakies that I couldn't catch in this pic

This is Hottie over the grey and peacock - except for ring finger which also has GOSH and you can clearly see the golden flakies

The Hottie emphasises the green/blue in Clouded Slate

Until I get the 4 hauls I am eagerly awaiting this will be today's mani

Rimmel Green with Envy v The Edge Barcelona (dupes)

Here goes.
2 polishes that look alike in the bottle and even more so on the nail.

This was becoming another big fat fail...
Both polishes went on well. 2 coats each was plenty.
The Rimmel was on index and little, The Edge on middle and ring
They looked fun, bright and deffo dupes.


Oh no! 
As soon as I applied CG Freeze Dry to the Edge nails I got hideous warping and shrinkage. Up to the point it was the superior polish and would have been opaque with 1 careful coat.
What to do? I added GOSH Rainbow.
It shows its bronze-gold aspects in this context so I'm happy enough.
The weather is a bit dreary so this is a bright mani and cheering.
The Rimmel is a teeny bit brush-stroke-city but possibly less than I was expecting.
The Barcelona is a great polish but I'm going to avoid the Fast Freeze next time.
