Now for a bottle comparison.

They look alike on the nail but not so much in the bottle. So the Milani will be off to a better home as I know I can easily replace the Sinful if ever I want to. It's a purple jelly and it's much more intense and sparkly and generally gorgeous when it's not washed out by flash. Like purple Quink. I love inky.

Sinful don't do a big range in the UK but they're £2.99 and the P&P is 60p per polish. Sue me but I reckon that's not bad.

I have downloaded dozens of nail polish ads and they now litter my desktop but naughty blogger isn't letting me upload all these jpgs today and I don't know why. It usually bloomin' does! Oh, fixed it!!!!

(Great Gatsby published 1925.) Btw don't ever bother to rent the film. I saw it when it came out and it's soooooo boring.

I must apologise. I got so excited by all these ads and the social history pertaining thereto that I just garnered as many as I could and now don't know what period they relate to. Oh, dear. I'm guessing Fifties for this. Maybe even Sixties? Polish at a dollar? So forgive me for getting everything out of sync but I'm going to carry on posting these ads because I want to.

Decided I hadn't done a blue in ever so long
Now there's a tale to tell with this one. Make yourself comfy.
2/3 coats and there's VNL about which I don't stress.
The polish does migrate rather on the nail as if seeking asylum in the UK so one does rather have to chase it around to pin it down and even then some bald patches persist.
Consequently the middle finger had a 3rd application and I might add more coats to the others.
HOWEVER it is a delightful polish. I thought it would be a foil judging by the contents but it's a very delicate glitter, rather hard to categorise.
On to the index. That was 2/3 coats of HD DVD and that really was almost as thin as Kate Moss after a detox so I added a coat of Milani Hot Metal.

V = vegan Some big names here. With OPI you've got most colours and finishes covered. So you can build a big collection of polish comprised solely of animal-friendly polishes. I decided there was so much information out there, some of it conflicting, that I'd have to put my faith in a single authoritative source for my own sanity. PETA should be a pretty discriminating organisation so I'll trust their findings. If PETA sanction a company's output then I'm convinced. It remains now for me to discover more about these lesser-known manufacturers because I do seek out the more obscure brands anyway. What else should I be doing in the cause of animal-welfare? Jenni

Purple gradient mani - Barry M, Butter London, OPI, NYX, Milani

This was meant to graduate from light to dark according to the bottles. I used 3 untrieds so I didn't know what to expect. It didn't turn out as a seamless and measured transition along the spectrum as planned but I like it anyway. The pink and taupe was lovely but I needed a bit more oomph.

Little Milani Totally Cool 3 coats essential and it's still streaky now I look it over, it's inky but it is as described - totally COOL
Ring NYX Purple Dream 3 coats essential, lovely blue flash, sort-of duochrome, and still a bit streaky in some lights
Middle OPI A Grape Fit 3 coats but 2 would do
Index Butter London Scoundrel 2 coats - the pick of the bunch formula-wise, very like the OPI but more greyed-out, I do like Butter

Thumb Barry M Berry Ice-cream 3 coats but 2 might just be OK

All with base and top coats

I had to over-expose this to get anywhere near the actual colour

Sorry for my teeny child-hands. They are so small that I wear child's gloves. Pretty they are not.

I do try to support local manufacturing wherever possible hence the name. Carbon footprint and work for local people. They can be Polish local people. They have kids and send their kids to school so they're local. And that keeps me in a job! Same goes for anyone else who wants to live and work here.

Butter London isn't as far as I know, I'm sure I read it somewhere - a brilliant bargain from ebay - 3 fullsize polishes for £15!!

The OPI - can't remember how I got this, I DO know I didn't close it correctly and it has begun to thicken, I love this so why did I DO that???

NYX - got this from fragrancedirect - they currently have loads of NYX £2.99

Milani - think that was cherryculture before they raised their postage costs
