YSL Rouge Volupte Brun Vibrant lipstick

If it's Rouge then how can it be Brun? Just idly asking...

Looks glossier than I was expecting. Doesn't feel glossy/messy though which is something I welcome. It's not that I have long hair to get caught in lipstick but I still feel mildly queasy thinking about that scenario.

Was an absolute bargain. A fiver? Cheap Smells. Think I must have secured the last one. Just love the packaging. I'm really not supposed to be getting into lipstick as well as nail polish but .....too late. Just ordered 3 OCC Lip Tars and got an Illamasqua from asos at a bargain price.

Just to say - I hate the abbreviation 'lippie'. It's very useful and labour-saving and so forth but I just hate that word. Any words or phrases you particularly dislike?

Cheap Smells. Not the most attractive name for someone looking for good quality products at good (aka bargain) prices. Works on a 'does-what-it-says-on-the-tin' way. Direct. To the point. But charmless.

 

YSL Rouge Volupte Brun Vibrant £4.95. I'll swatch it soon. But the packaging is worth that money! Feels so satisfying in the hand. The sort of thing I pop in my pocket and just fondle to give myself a thrill....Is that TMI? I really don't need to develop an expensive lipstick habit but when did need trump desire?

 The La Perla was £25.95 but it IS eau de parfum and the OH finds it irresistible. Odd because I don't much like it. Too woody and the patchouli is too strong but (as mentioned) the OH is crazy about it/me. So I need it in my arsenal.

Now the Peony is more my thing. I go for florals and gourmand fragrances so this is right up my rue. Got a polish too but I'll post that separately as it merits its own pearls of wisdom. Ahem.

I also use fragrance direct, cosmetic kingdom and probably scores of others. Any discount recommendations?

I won a Dove prize in her giveaway so expect more pix of my hair soon! I just know you can hardly contain yourselves. Such is the excitement generated. ;o) I had better purple it a bit before I test the products! I like Dove body cream a LOT so have high hopes of the hair stuff.

Was nattering about the meerkat ad on a forum I visit when someone referred me to the Tango ad in the sidebar. I love those meerkats. Does anybody NOT? Watch the ad. Go on! If you live in a part of the world where you don't get the meerkats then I am very sorry for you.....Try youtube.

Anyway - I don't have any polishes with blackcurrant in the name and I can't find my Misa Wishing On A Star so...

YSL Black Tulip and Lancome Piha Black
Excuse the ghastly thumb nail. I decided the gorgeous Wet'n'Wild Tahiti and Bora Bora needed some China Glaze Cowardly Lyin' over the top. I was wrong. Utterly wrong.

Then I've Zoya Casey which might just as well be black. It doesn't look it in the pic but on the nail it's dark. Dark. Dark.

Nail Polish Ads again...

Think this is from the Thirties. Quite minimalist for a nail ad. The higher-end brands have ads that tend to be more pared-down and the cheaper ones typically feature a colour-chart and are a lot busier design-wise. This is on the chic side.

Do you wear black nail polish much? Or only at Halloween? D'you think it's just for teens? Does it make you feel edgy? Or is it "been there done that"?

We did a swap and I got my goodies first.
There are more polishes than you can shake a stick at, I tell ya! And I'm going to drip-feed the images over another 2 days. How I love a swap. Of course, I'm agonising now that she hasn't received her package. Especially since it's about a month since I sent Susie of Susie's Home and Hobbies her giveaway package and it still hasn't reached her. I am quaking slightly. Do hope the bloomin' Post Office (and I do love them really) get their finger out.

YSL is the one that look like aubergine (eggplant). But black tulip is just as appropriate an appellation.

The Orly is part of the Plastix collection. It's semi-matte/satin. Quite nice to stroke it with a fingertip, very soft.

This shows the value of  SHAMELESS BEGGING.

Karen intimated that she wasn't that keen on this when she showed it on her blog so I essentially asked if I could have it. Cheeky, huh. 

The YSL is 2 coats and also the Orly. 

The YSL really doesn't look this dark IRL but my camera couldn't handle the 2 differing finishes.

Purple Pleather.
I want it to mean..
Well, work it out from the context.
"Eh, lass, you've got yourself in a right pleather. Sit down wi' me and 'ave a cuppa tea."

That's not what it really means but I think my alternative is infinitely superior to the pedestrian "plastic leather" definition.

And a purple pleather is getting your knickers in an even bigger twist than an everyday pleather.

So, 2 more Karen polishes. Eye-popping goodies.

DVD and Spectrum. I swear to you that these are make-up-your-own-superlative.

Remember to check Lacquerized for her researches into polish and animal testing. I'm going to find out what British law (or more likely the EU) has to say on the matter. This could take a while. I haven't forgotten this but you know how it goes - you have to ask the right questions.

A most extraordinary thing...

....happened to me today and this is the result. See below.

Long story starts now...
Old iron packed up a while ago. OH got a new iron. Turned out new iron was far too heavy for my poor ickle paws and the handle was too thick and I strained that area between thumb and index finger. Ouch. Went to John Lewis for new iron. Not made in China obviously. OK, found iron for person with small paws - me. You have to have a quick look round John Lewis while you're there. Obviously! Up a floor. Disgorge from escalator right onto the Yves St Laurent counter. Not exactly onto it but you know what I mean.

Now THIS is where it gets crazy!

OH says (I kid you not): Oh, thats' nice. Do you like that? (Meaning the polish you see above).

I take a closer look and say nonchalantly: Yes. (And bravely saunter on).

Well, do you want it?

(Casually as if couldn't really be bothered). Yes, that would be very nice.


OH deplores my nail habit as a rule. Freaky. OH bought polish for me.

It is a jelly. I knew it would be. It cost £16.50. Worth every bleedin' penny.
2 coats + top coat. The 2nd pic makes it look more tomato-red but it IS a genuine blue-red. Even the 1st pic is not really accurate.

A proper polish where the top comes off and leaves you with a manoeuvrable black handle. No clean-up needed.

No WAY do these pix give it enough respect. I am a very grateful wife!
