Skittle Tips - Skipples?

Needed a topcoat to smooth it out a bit
  • I really love this and I don't mind that I went a bit OTT on the ring finger and made a puddle!
  • Over CG White Cap (shouldn't that be whitecap?)
  • I prefer it to plain ol' skittles

  •  Bourjois Bleu Model (this is so not blue to my eyes)
  • Barielle Expressive (they have a 50% sale on in the UK and have had for some time)
  • L'Oreal Yellow Seahorse
  • Essie Smooth Sailing
Do you like skittles or any variant thereof?

Essence Choose Me - and I did...

3 coats of a quick-dry polish that cost about £2 in Hrvatska (Croatia). I think it's a glass fleck. Pretty vibrant and doesn't smurfify the nails to any great extent. Phew. There weren't many polishes in the little town where we stay but I don't go there to cosmetic-shop. Ignore the little finger. That's an experiment.

This stuff lasts really well. But wouldn't you know it - I only noticed a chip on the last morning when we were due to leave at 9am?! Could do nothing about it. All packed.

In the forthcoming days there will be :
  • my mini-haul from Hrvatska
  • my holiday snaps (you can skip over them, that's understood)
  • my amazing gift from Glam Nails
  • some moaning about having to go back to work on Monday - boo, hiss...
  • nail swatches

Oo, Radio 4 is just broadcasting a trail for a programme about caves in Croatia! What are the chances, huh?

Essie Alligator Purse, Essie Nutcracker Sweet and Boots 17 Sphinx and Kinetics Coral Reef

And this is the muted version with a random FlorMar. I think I prefer this.

I'm sure you get the idea. Sellotape. All this gubbins went on top of the Boots 17 Bared. No need to remove it.

Not sure if I've worn Alligator before. I rather like it but I did spend the entire evening attempting to clear my brain of the irritating and repetitive strains of the rhyme so I may not be able to bring myself to use it again.  Stop with the music, I say!

Get out the sunglasses - It's Essie Pink Parka

Crikey. This is bright and no mistake. A whole £2 from the asos sale. Not necessarily £2 well spent...
Makes my hands look very grubby and my already-short fingers look shorter still. Am I an Oompa Loompa or what?

I don't think this is the best polish I ever bought somehow.
3 coats. Still streaky. Neon so it needed a top coat. It actually had 2. Some Glitter Opal and Nails Inc Kensington.
And it's even brighter and more in-yer-face IRL. I think I am growing to hate it! Arghhhhh!

D'you know I shall have to question my mother about my paternity because I may be onto something with this Oompa Loompa notion! There are more than a few similarities....

Do you resemble anybody famous?

Essie + a puzzle/Hokey cokey karaoke and let the dog see the rabbit...

Here's an Essie

Got it for £3.50. Didn't much like it in the bottle. 3 coats. LOVE it on. L O V E   I T.

Here's the puzzle!
A recent Rimmel polish was called Coralicious because it was coral-coloured. That's my opening example. Other polishes with the colour in the name are: Ruby Pumps, Red Stallion, Blue Moon.

So what did Essie call THIS?
What colour family do you think this belongs to?

I want you to guess by posting a comment, if you feel so inclined.
But the answer (the actual moniker by which this is marketed) can be found below. Highlight the supposedly blank area and you will see what it's called.

Mauve-ing Along

Now you can call me a blind old bat with the colour sense of a mole in a hole but I really don't think that this polish can be called mauve. But what do you think?
I'm going to post my 5 Cherry tag blogger/folk/peeps later today and an Illamasqua question.

This is for Vix - only it isn't eyeliner..Sorry!

Vix (Vintage Vixen) posted in a comment that I must be well-groomed since I do change my polish very frequently and appear to give a damn.

Now this made me laugh my smelly socks off.
How is Vix supposed to know that I'm a scruff of the scruffiest order?
But I started to see myself as some sort of fashion and beauty guru - perhaps in an alternative universe? - and invited you yesterday to state an area of interest where I might regale you with advice and the invaluable knowledge I have gleaned over 54 years. You know - me being an authority on these things.

Vix voted eyeliner but the majority went for shoes.
So you get summer footwear. Summer of 1972.

There will be eyeliner another day. That's a threat promise.

I don't do gladiator sandals.

You want these, don't you? I knew it!
Well, you'll have to buy mine. They don't make them any more. And that, my dears, is a SAD story.

These aren't vintage 1972. They are a company called SWEAR. And they have recently gone out of business in women's shoes. They still do stuff for men. Their stuff is made in Spain not China. It wasn't Primark prices but for the quality they were completely worth it.
Google "swear-alternative" if you know a bloke who likes mad shoes. There is still some stuff out there. They still have some ginza sandals I MUST get.

These are suede with cork soles. The leather is beautifully soft. The soles aren't heavy. Maple leaves. Perfect for Canadians. The stitching is immaculate. The logo is embossed beautifully. Everything about them is of the highest quality. I weep at their demise. (That's not me being facetious.)

And on a fashion note I can GUARANTEE that these will be trendy again within 5 years. That's the way it goes. That's if you care about trends. For my taste you can shove those gladiator sandals up Spartacus' back alley. They are hideous and (probably) bad for your feet.

Next fashion point, purleeze.

So who bought Crocs?
And who still wears them?
And who bought knock-offs?
That's 3 questions.
These are genuine 2nd hand from ebay. I didn't clean them up for the pic. They're mostly for dog-walking. I like Crocs and I have the big guys too - also in Barbie.
Oh, and will they make a comeback?? Q4.

A new Jessica. Something to do with /cabana/ as if I know what that is.
New Eyeko. Now I have every Eyeko polish. Hurrah.
Essie Alligator Purse - only because I like singing "Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick sick sick So she..." - I don't like the colour but it was half-price.

You may compliment me on my taste in shoes now.
And the Crocs questions.
Did you?
Do you now?
Authentic or cheapo?
Do you believe they'll undergo a renaissance?

Not long left in the giveaway.
And I've won a giveaway myself! PELICAN BEAK PURPLE!! More details tres tres soon.

Essie - a bunch of cream cremes - soft/feminine

More for £3.50 per bottle
Just goes to show you can't judge a polish by its container...
Oh, and this is after a hard day's wear at work btw

Little: Body Language (greyish)
Ring: Pound Cake
Middle: T-Bills Putty
Index: Be Right Bag

Still streaky after 2/3 coats but the surprise was Be Right Bag which I only added as an afterthought.
It is a beautiful polish. 2 coats opacity with a pinky/blue iridescence

BRB is the one on the left (confusingly for which I apologise) and you can see what appears to be a reflection on the bottle but that's the shimmer

I felt unusually sophisticated wearing these. I am (other than in my dreams) a slobby, dumpy, short creature who walks like a duck (I was told this about 40 years ago by some boys on the bus and I have to concede they were probably right, unkind but accurate). So sophistication and I are generally strangers!

AND I GOT MY GIVEAWAY FROM SIMONE OF GIVETHEJEWGIRLTOYS!!!
THANK YOU, SIMONE!

At which point my camera battery died......So more news of that tomorrow.
My first giveaway and, given my luck, probably my last!
But curiously I am poised at 50 followers. I have polishes ready for a giveaway but I have to reach 51. This is because I was mucking about and managed to add myself as a follower of my own blog.

Be honest - am I really only the person to do it? It was accidental and I have confessed. I am 2% of my own readership.

So the giveaway will involve comments and maybe completing a questionnaire. You know the kind of thing - what is your fave purple polish - nothing heavy!

Hot here.

Essie, Lily Pond,Steppin Out, Gladioli, Luscious Lips, pink, creme, shimmer

I see Essies for £3.50 at http://www.nailsbymail.co.uk/ and I must have them.
They are all tiddly pinks and pales but nonetheless I must have them.

This is more colour accurate if I judge by skin colour. The other pix are somewhat under-cooked.

L to R
Luscious Lips, Gladioli, Steppin Out, Lily Pond
Pond was OK with 2 coats - the others you could build and build
I expected this and I didn't mind a bit as they are so pretty in their bottles and I am just gravitating towards "safe" shades and away from my usual greens and purples.

The pick?
Lily Pond for coverage and impact (pinkpact) and Gladioli because it has the most delightful golden shimmer (just visible in the pic)
I like them together. They make a pink gradient mani. The combination is intriguing and the only way I can wear such conservative shades. Obviously they'll lend themselves to glitter topcoats in the days to come.

Bottles in the wrong order. I didn't reverse them for the pic. I am an idiot, non?
Pond, Steppin, Gladioli, Lips

They do flatter my hands and the bottles look lovely clustered together. This also means that Essie Ruby Slippers is no longer an orphan.

There are 4 more to come, best characterised as nudes.

Until the next time...
