Jelly glitter sandwich

With Jessica Aqua Tint and NYC Starry Silver Glitter
  • Left the ring finger unsandwiched so it's weedy and thin but I wanted to see the NYC more clearly
  • Am SO going to get smurf-fingers
  • I would like it if I liked aqua on me
  • I cut my nails back a little too far
  • It is quite an easy thing to do and is fun in the sun (which we have again today)
We can all get the NYC easily enough from Superdrug. Do you have it? Or did you think it was a bit too unsubtle and kiddie?

Frozen Jelly (a Jessica Red Tint and beauty uk Frozen Kingdom hybrid)

Oh, dear. It's a bit blurry. I used red whereas I really wanted pink but couldn't find it and had no patience or perseverance to look harder. Typical lazy-bones.

It took me ages to paint my nails today though what with ridge-filler and top coat and layers PLUS the Missguided Misstique left me with Super-Smurf nails and fingers. Honestly, I don't even like blue that much. Why did I bother? Almost enough to make me utter the 'never again' phrase. Never again will I wear blue polish. For now....

Is there any blue that doesn't smurfify the nails?

Jessica Victorian Crush - whatever that is...

Another sludge-green I simply had to have. And only got courtesy of ABOP and her RAOK.

Dear sweetie took note that I had admired this and just sent me a bottle! I had won a fab Diamond Cosmetics collection from her last year so she had my address already! Is she not a total sweetheart? She is also brilliant with her replies to comments.

The Jessica in this pic is the darker shade btw.
Name a fave blogger!

Who do you know who lives in Palmdale, CA?? RAOK

Because this person (yes, the name was on the box but I can't match the name to a blogger - if it is a blogger) sent me this! And I can't just publicise the name for all the world to see, now can I?  The name just doesn't ring a bell.

Victorian Crush - grubby green! hurrah! - and a nail hardener. I love this shade so I'm guessing I've been lusting after it and whingeing and whining (as if!) and someone has taken pity on me.

But whom am I to thank?

So - Palmdale, California. That's the clue.

And a big THANK YOU!

Jessica Soak Up The Sun

Jessica is a great brand and I was rather hoping this would be a great polish (well, formula-wise as the colour isn't the most interesting one has ever seen) but it fell victim to the curse of the neon-pastel streakitudity.

3 coats and it was still patchy so....

I can't say I like the effect but it will simply have to do. The 2010 over the pink is slightly suggestive of a nasty fungal disease attacking my nails but you can't win 'em all...
Nubar 2010 and Illamasqua Prism btw.

Now the other hand is sporting something far more interesting but we shall leave that for another day.

I have an embarrassment of (relative) riches to show you in the coming week.
  • Perfumes. I have rather more than I had imagined and do fancy myself something of a connoisseur. *splutters*
  • YSL lipstick
  • Silver rings
  • Giraffe tights
  • My Dove giveaway from Charlie - but it's being sent from Dove HQ so I don't have an ETA
  • Nail polish by Zoya, Revlon, GOSH, BB Couture, Illamasqua, Bourjois, OPI

Jessica Skin Deep

Less than a fiver. I have seen this on no other blog. That is criminal. You may say it's boring (Vix certainly will) but it's breathtakingly beautiful. To me.

There is the best and finest gold shimmer in this that I have ever seen. 3 coats.

This beats my previous favourite nude (Eyeko) into a cocked hat.

Pretty bottle contents. Cast your peepers over this!

I know it does me no favours i.e. doesn't suit me.  I care naught for that.

More cutesie-cutesie.

Apparently they are at least as afraid of the sheep as vice versa. This may change...

Jessica Mystical Magic

Oo, oo, oo! I am officially on the hunt for Jessica polishes. I already have a few but my recent bargain buys have ignited a flame of desire for Jessica!

It's brown. But it's brown with an added 'je-ne-sais-quoi'.
2 coats.
The accent nail (for which read - trying to cover over a bit of a c0ck-up) is a layering effort with 3 additional beauties.

Look at that GOSH Rainbow. I have 3 PLUS a Nubar 2010. Flakie is my middle name.

Word to the wise: some GOSH stuff is half-price at Superdrug. Including Holographic which the display claims is being discontinued. If you like their Holo - and I know there are many fans - then lose no time.

By bargain buy I mean £2.99 for the Jessica from

http://www.halfpriceperfumes.co.uk/search/results.html?keyword=nail&go=GO&pto=

Good site. Not much choice but the 3 I got are great. I spend so much time looking for sites like this. I really should get a life some day....

Jessica giveaway

6 Jessica tints

Pink, Coral, Red, Violet, Aqua and Emerald.

This was Violet. One of my first pix. Shows that these are jellies. Jellies with VNL. If you look at my pix of Jessica (check the label) there are quite a few pix. These are great for gradients and layering too. So you know what you're letting yourself in for. I think they are great but I know some people are not jellyphiles...

How to enter?

  • Go to the Great Silly Survey on the right.
  • Copy it into the Comments box and answer all the questions in as brief or lengthy a fashion as you desire.
  • If your username doesn't link to a profile somewhere with your email addy then also leave your email.
  • Please accept that I will post this the cheapest way I can. If the winner is in a far-flung place (er, Iowa? - that's a Bill Bryson joke so don't blame me...) then it may take a while to get to you.
  • If I haven't explained properly please ask.
  • Ends at the end of January.

M & S Rainbow and Jessica jellies/tints

Picture. Without further ado.

Sloshed (hence the particularly messy cuticles) the jellies over the top of the silver holo in the kitchen. FAIL, thought I. Got to take the pix anyway, thought I.
Took photos, looked at results and decided it was only a partial fail.

This next one is blurry - but I like the violet tint and it does show that the pink tint doesn't work at all.

The aqua works and so does the red.

The tints that were layered on top of the Rainbow are my trusted Jessica jellies.

Must find the green. Where have I put it? Actually I must do a thorough inventory of my stash. There's a coral too but that's my least favourite.

Hey, it's actually NOT raining. Much to my shame I stayed in yesterday so the dogs are keen to get out and about. I bought a pedometer yesterday (the rain didn't prevent me shopping) so I'm keen to discover how many steps my dog-walking will amount to. 10,000 is my target. Wish me luck. I'm at 1143 steps so far and I've been up for a couple of hours.

What's your exercise regime? Do you even have one? Went to the GP earlier (routine stuff) and was so depressed by the clientele that I decided I really do have to spruce myself up a bit to avoid becoming a bit of a saddo.

Silver and violet makes silvolet/vilver

Here it is...

This is like...loads better IRL.
Hence 2 more pix of it comin' up.
It's sundry silvers I've been wearing for days (aeons?) topped with (slopped with) a coat of Jessica Violet Tint. I have 6 of these and I am going to do every permutation of putting them over other stuff that I can think of. Thus giving me thousands (probably, you do the maths if you feel so inclined) of different looks.

And a shadier shot...

Layering is the way forward. Got to get my money's worth.

Aha! Listening to Radio 4.  Woman's Hour. They're doing a debate-thing that they seem to do every few months.

Don't you want kids? If not then why not?

It seems to be a question that fascinates women. Don't know quite why except that we're such a nosy bunch we have to pry into other people's lives.

So, in the spirit of poking my nose in, what's your view? To have or not to have?

Jessica (again) - gradient + thimble

I can't carry on just painting them. I really do have to try to be more creative. Don't hold your breath though...

It's a mix of 3 Jessica jellies. Aqua, Emerald and Violet.
Just slopped on. I wanted a sort of drippy candle-wax effect but it is what it is. Fine. Not bad. Quite like it.
Sorry about the ring finger. Clearly if I COULD fix it then I bloomin' well would. No idea what's wrong with it. Considering wearing a plaster over it permanently. You remember Nelly and Kelly? Plasters? Oh, and even Adam Ant. Could revive a trend. Keep your Minx. Maybe I should be looking for novelty-plasters. Or glue a thimble to my finger? Better get on to it.

Forgive state of paws. They don't look nearly as good as this IRL. Honest to God I'm sloughing my skin like an adolescent lizard. Too much information?

I do love to see the sun shining through these tints.

Here's my thimble.

It's Faberge. A bit plain for my taste. Must find a better one. I want to be able to tap rhythms on my desk and bring my students to attention with a tap of my thimble. Getting excited now.

The German for thimble is Fingerhut. This means "hat for a finger".

Jessica My Cabana Boy - coral creme

I must be quick as I have one of those missives from the postperson inviting me to collect 2 (yes, TWO) parcels! Can only be nail bobbins. Unless a mysterious admirer has decided to send me unsolicited gifts! Probably not...

Bought because it was cheaper than usual.
I believe I can't wear orange/peach and. by extension, coral. So - time to test my theory.
This (above) is 2 coats + GOSH Rainbow because...

I saw this photo and realised that it was streaky. Ah, the power of the camera lens!
This is with topcoat because it does dry matte to semi-matte.
So I added a 3rd coat. Yer real professional routinely does 3 (polishaddict - sadly too busy with important legal affairs to upkeep her blog) minimum. And then got the matte effect again.

I bought ridge filler (for blindingly obvious reasons) and £10 (I kid you not) on a nail file. A Leighton Denny crystal nail file. The larger one was £14!!!
The small one is smaller and has a box. Now the big one had no box. That's not sensible. I wanted the case/container for that money. And who needs a big nail file anyway? A person with big hands and that's not me.
My previous nail filing (when done at all) was with any old emery board/match box I could find at the drop of a beret. And to be frank you could tell. You could definitely tell.

Even more bizarrely the other hand is coral too. I never do that. My hands are always asymmetrical. Not the same corals as THIS hand but at a casual glance you'd think I had matched hands today. Not entirely comfortable with that. I look as if I might be acting my age. Eeek. Worse. Old-lady coral.

Believe me, the other hand is way better.
I think the Jessica is a lovely polish for some people. I don't dislike it but I'm going to have to go Twilight or something soon.

Let's have a not-so-heated debate.
Do you file nails damp or dry?
Do you resent spending money on a nail file?
Do you use ridge filler?
Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours?

I thank you
Jenni-FUR (all that dog hair I haven't yet shaken off)

This is for Vix - only it isn't eyeliner..Sorry!

Vix (Vintage Vixen) posted in a comment that I must be well-groomed since I do change my polish very frequently and appear to give a damn.

Now this made me laugh my smelly socks off.
How is Vix supposed to know that I'm a scruff of the scruffiest order?
But I started to see myself as some sort of fashion and beauty guru - perhaps in an alternative universe? - and invited you yesterday to state an area of interest where I might regale you with advice and the invaluable knowledge I have gleaned over 54 years. You know - me being an authority on these things.

Vix voted eyeliner but the majority went for shoes.
So you get summer footwear. Summer of 1972.

There will be eyeliner another day. That's a threat promise.

I don't do gladiator sandals.

You want these, don't you? I knew it!
Well, you'll have to buy mine. They don't make them any more. And that, my dears, is a SAD story.

These aren't vintage 1972. They are a company called SWEAR. And they have recently gone out of business in women's shoes. They still do stuff for men. Their stuff is made in Spain not China. It wasn't Primark prices but for the quality they were completely worth it.
Google "swear-alternative" if you know a bloke who likes mad shoes. There is still some stuff out there. They still have some ginza sandals I MUST get.

These are suede with cork soles. The leather is beautifully soft. The soles aren't heavy. Maple leaves. Perfect for Canadians. The stitching is immaculate. The logo is embossed beautifully. Everything about them is of the highest quality. I weep at their demise. (That's not me being facetious.)

And on a fashion note I can GUARANTEE that these will be trendy again within 5 years. That's the way it goes. That's if you care about trends. For my taste you can shove those gladiator sandals up Spartacus' back alley. They are hideous and (probably) bad for your feet.

Next fashion point, purleeze.

So who bought Crocs?
And who still wears them?
And who bought knock-offs?
That's 3 questions.
These are genuine 2nd hand from ebay. I didn't clean them up for the pic. They're mostly for dog-walking. I like Crocs and I have the big guys too - also in Barbie.
Oh, and will they make a comeback?? Q4.

A new Jessica. Something to do with /cabana/ as if I know what that is.
New Eyeko. Now I have every Eyeko polish. Hurrah.
Essie Alligator Purse - only because I like singing "Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick sick sick So she..." - I don't like the colour but it was half-price.

You may compliment me on my taste in shoes now.
And the Crocs questions.
Did you?
Do you now?
Authentic or cheapo?
Do you believe they'll undergo a renaissance?

Not long left in the giveaway.
And I've won a giveaway myself! PELICAN BEAK PURPLE!! More details tres tres soon.

Jessica jellies - Aqua and Coral

Aqua and coral - they ought to go well together, yes?

Hark at me! As if I go diving in the lucid waters off the Great Barrier Reef every morning before breaking my fast with a grilled sea-trout and papaya.
I did go to Blackpool once...

Lots of coats. In sun.
No base coat and no top coat.
A I'm getting lazy
B I'm somewhat thrifty
C I'm desperately impatient and I just wanted to get on with it and it took an age to remove the glitter plus I knocked a brush on the carpet, made the mistake of squealing involuntarily and thus alerted the OH to the catastrophe, hastily swabbed carpet, assured OH (still downstairs) that no bones were broken and no further intervention was required and got on with it...

I love these even though Coral is too orange for my taste. But it does speak to the Aqua (a genuine aqua IMO) and so I will graciously accept it.

In shade.

Bottles. You can see how clear the Coral and Red are. The Pink appears essentially creme which it emphatically is not. The Emerald is far left and the other dark one is the Violet (my fave so far).

They are so GLOSSY. I smooch them.

Btw I hate real jelly (I hesitate to say edible food-item as it is neither palatable nor of any value to the human body). Does anyone like it?

That's the QUESTION OF THE DAY.
What about jelly? (Not jam.)
What ABOUT jelly?

Fave flavour? Fave combinations? Do you loathe it? Best jelly mould?

Pink and green - the sequel - Jessica polishes

OK, here's where I lose 90% of my readers.
There's VNL coming and d'you know what?

I don't dislike VNL. At all. Ever. It's not a problem.
I do not get the bitter hatred. So pass this by if you are a hatah!

These are called tints.
Emerald and Pink.

They just proved too cool (not cool in a good way, you understand) alone so out with the glitter. Sinful UFO and something I picked up for £1 that has bar glitter and isn't a PITA to remove (always a bonus). I enhanced this pic because my camera is showing my skin too pale. I've begun to tan and my camera hasn't caught up...

Loads of coats. Add a soupcon of dog hair and a dash of bubbles. Garnish with a dent and a re-slop. And I like it. Not as much as the purple. Oh, no.

But I love these translucent polishes. Lucky for me that I alone in the whole world like them because, thanks to the economic law of supply and demand, they are cheap.

Looks blue but it so clearly isn't. The pink appears positively opaque but it is not.
I love them because there were a host of these when I was a teenager in the 60s/70s and it's a nostalgia-thing.

Watery, jelly, summery. Crystal pools and shady rills. They're even called: Vernis Cristallin.

The other hand still sports the immovable glitter-fest. I shall probably have to wait a few geological epochs before that comes off....

A fail - Barielle - and a pass - Jessica

Context is all.
Yesterday I did the bling-thing on the LH so the RH had the much-anticipated Barielle Belly Dance. It was lovely - now my official fave taupe - but I couldn't see the pink iridescence as promised so I was frankly "meh" about it and (highly unusual for me because I hate waste) changed it after a couple of hours.

To this..

Jessica Violet Tint

I got 6 of these for £6.50 all inclusive.
This is probably 4 coats but it goes on without any effort so who cares? I actually enjoy ladling it on with a trowel.

These are true jellies. If you hate VNL then you'll loathe these.
I have always loved this kind of translucent finish so I am in 7th heaven with these.
I have emerald, aqua, pink, red and coral to try.
Because it isn't opaque it doesn't verge on that tedious "looks-like-black-all-the-bleedin'-time" territory. Looks black in the bottle to be sure but not on the nail.
Hurrah, say I. And at that price I've ordered another 6 as back-up. Now that is a rarity!

And here's the Belly Dance with Mavala Pink Diamond attempting to distract the eye from a c0ck-up. It's a lovely taupe but it simply didn't suit my mood.

"What larks, Pip!"
(In honour of elder daughter's 22nd birthday today - not that she reads this)

Happy Friday
Jenni
