Barielle Belly Dance + Bourjois Beige Sophistique

Removing that Bourjois red made my hands all...red! Needed a lot of scrubbing. But the Bourjois did such a good job of ridge-filling that I had the inspired *modest? moi?* idea of using the beige one as a base coat. Then it took just 1 coat of Barielle and I was done. Here goes. 2 coats would've been better.

You can see the Beige beneath because I'm not exactly meticulous about these things but people don't habitually grab my hands and rate my nails. Although the woman at the check-out in the CoOp last week did say I had an interesting concept i.e. different colour nails on the 2 hands. So now I have conceptual nails. I'm almost Picasso.
Belly Dance. Ghastly name. Belly dancing is becoming popular though. You can even take lessons these days. It's not the most flattering colour on me and does make my hands look lobster but I still like it. It's sort-of pinky-purple although it also ISN'T. It was on a BOGOF so I don't mind that I don't love it. The Bourjois is now my default ridge-filler. It works better than anything else I've tried.

Today's ad

  • Plasteen - where are you now?
  • 15 cents
  • What a vast range of complex colours!
  • Can anyone figure out what those brooches are, please? This is really bugging me.
  • And for AggieP (should she be reading this) a redhead! Natural, I'd say.
  • It's one of those photos where you start to wonder, "What is she thinking? Who's she talking to? What's going on?"
What polish do you wear that you believe doesn't really flatter you but you like it regardless?

  1. I have a problem with beige, I know it's "in" and it does look good on you but I couldn't possibly buy something in a neutral colour, it goes again the grain.
Possibly bright green, turquoise, neon pink, tangerine and teal blue which aren't the classiest of nail choices but they suit my personality so stuff it!!
Love the advert, again! Those brooches look like dresses but why two? Bizarre. Great expression. xxx

  2. I like the idea of using the Bourjois beige as a ridge filler. Good plan.

I wear any nail varnish regardless of whether it suits me or not, all in the name of a review. But oranges and mint greens look worst on me.

  3. I can't do orange and yet I'm drawn to it. Fool that I am. I got the Beige, Helen, because you reviewed it first!
But Vix, my OTHER hand is pink glitter. You could never look bland even in beige.

  4. The "false nail effect" seems similar to my current favorite basecoat, Instant Artificials, which does a great job disguing ridges. It won't do a thing to mask visible nail line under sheers, though, which your Bourjois will.
What's the "perfect curve" the bottle promises?

And yes, 17 pinks, a mauve, and six or seven reds, some iridescent--impressive!

  5. Well, Karen, your stash is impressive by any standards so it's bound to include some not-so-nice. Are you saying pink doesn't suit you???? The perfect curve? I don't know. It may be the brush-shape. And I hate to boast but my ridges are WAAAAAY worse than yours!

  6. Some pinks suit me fine, but I tend to want to buy whole collections, regardless of whether they flatter or whether I have something similar already. I'm getting a little better at this but it's fighting nature and nurture, since I am the child of two packrats.

  7. I wish I could afford to buy whole collections....Never mind!

  8. Yeah, check it out, a natural redhead, I forgot to mention that I am a mutt red-head, my red-headed mother was mated with an ash-blonde tramp so you will see in my pic that I am not quite so fire-engine red! (basically at all but I do have the skin) That is a complex/interesting line of colors, lol!!!

I was thinking the other day that I should try a macro of my hair, it is the strangest coloring, gray blonde/brown with bright red strands all throughout, weird.

I like the way that burgois fills in the ridges, very nice!

  9. That Barielle color suits you.
And per your comment to KarenD - you have a whole collection from Diamond Cosmetics - the summer one. Okay, it's a tiny collection, but still a whole one, lol!

  10. AP: I'm gonna check out your photo. Don't recall seeing it on your blog but maybe I didn't look hard enough.
ABOP: I have a whole collection? Wow. How did that happen?

  11. ABOP:Sorry, I meant I don't BUY whole collections. I'm still loving that Pelican Peak which I very embarrassingly thought for ages was Pelican BEAK. I do prefer Pelican BEAK as a name but I'm thinking they are named after real places so it'll have to be Peak. Disappointing though.

  14. Can I simply say what a comfort to uncover somebody who
truly understands what they're discussing on the internet. You actually realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people should read this and understand this side of the story. It's surprising you're not more popular since you most certainly possess the gift.
