BB Couture - Dragon's Breath - jelly goodness - more giveaway news...

Rebecca of www.nailsnailsetc.blogspot.com  was raving about BB Couture yesterday and I wanted something easy-going on the right hand as I was expecting bother with Topshop Bees Knees so I selected Dragon's Breath from BB. (Bees Knees proved a lot more accommodating than expected so I was a happy bunny).

3 coats but 2 is fine. How do I love thee, Breath of the Dragon?
Just slop it on.
Cue the praise for Kim at Overall Beauty. Honestly, you HAVE to buy some just so you can deal with Kim and experience great customer service.

Outdoors in sun.
This is one of those desert-island polishes. I don't have a Top 10 but this would have to be on it.

Now the RoW giveaway for Europe and beyond! Apologies for shoddy photo.

A lippie (Bourjois), some things you put on your nails (in little boxes), 3 of the Barry M ice-cream collection - berry, pale blue and a pale pink. They are all cremes and they'll be off-trend by the time you get them and Barry M has boring product names but it is a brand that isn't readily available everywhere and is identifiably British so....

Anyway the giveaway T&Cs will be posted later today. And the British giveaway won't be as stingy as just 3 polishes, I promise!

Later, later...

answers to your wee questionare :)

1 Your fave pink polish? I know pink can be considered beneath the notice of the serious nail-fanatic sometimes.

Models own Bubblegum, its a radioactive neon pink!

2 The polish you most looked forward to but disappointed you in reality.

Misa dirty sexy money...all the hype..and blaaaa..least its good for konading

3 The best contest/competition/whatever that you have ever won. Gave you the most pleasure - not necessarily the greatest in financial terms.

I won Misa green with envy, had been lemming it for ageeeees... wow its gorgeous, was so happy as its not easy to find here

4 For what polish, if any, would you (or have you) paid over £15? I don't know what that is in your currency!

    I havent ...yet..LOL

    Maybe for new Chanels..I would

5 Tell me about your pets or thoughts on pets.

    No pets..really fancy a cat

6 Do you have a charity you particularly favour? What is it?

None..lol.. they heckle you and send lots of post.. charity starts at home..rather give to family and friends :)

7 Say something positive about yourself.

err...I have a nice pair of boobs lol

8 I have a slight preoccupation with the letters that one has to enter to verify a comment. Here are some recent favourites: entub, normip, sestorta. Do you take any notice of these? Do you have any that have made you laugh? What do you think /sestorta/ might mean????

Those spambot things make me mad LOL I dont have them on my blog for this reason!!

9 Is mental health a subject that concerns you?

    I have OCD..so I guess..to a degree lol

10 Say something positive about your workplace.

  2. Thank you, Rebekah. if you win I'll replace Dirty, Sexy with something else. I had better have a look at Green with Envy. I love greens. And the Bubblegum.

  3. Yay giveaway! Thanks for the mention as well :) I love the BB Couture, it is gorgeous!

1 My favourite pink polish is MAC's Steamy. It's the one that started my polish "thing".

2 The polish that has most disappointed me... hmm, this is probably a No7 polish I bought...I paid full price and didn't like the colour PLUS it chipped like mad on me.

3 The best contest I've won in nail terms is probably the Milani holos I won recently! With regards to other competitions, when I was 9 I won my height in Cadburys Creme Eggs! That was the best.

4 Hmmm I have never paid £15 for a polish, the most is £13 for my Illamasquas. I'd probably pay above that for that brand if the price gets that high!

5 I have one dog, his name is Freddy and he is a 6 year old Bichon Frise. So cute!

6 Charities: I favour Cancer Research UK.

7 Something positive about myself: I have achieved a lot in the past 2 years and I'm proud of myself for it!

8 I can't remember any recent word verifications but I do always read them and laugh if they spell something funny!
"Sesorta" sounds like a medical term, like some kind of blood vessel or a thing like that.

9 Yes, mental health is something I think we should all be aware of and keep ourselves doing stuff that makes us happy. I also think more employers need to understand about mental health issues, so education on the subject needs to be improved.

10 I'm really enjoying work at the moment, getting on with all my colleagues and loving teaching. It's all pretty positive!

Thanks again for this! my email is nailsnailsetc@googlemail.com

  4. Thanks, Rebecca. I don't have any MACs. Not sure about them. Creme eggs! I think I am the only woman in Britain not to like them. Were you tall for your age? ;o)

Loving teaching? At the risk of not sounding positive - well, that's good. Amazing and astonishing - but good. It took me years to start enjoying it but it's a dream job now. I thought young teachers were all oppressed by workload, cares and woes? Glad you've taken to it so well!

  5. Dragon's Breath is really pretty. I'm such a sucker for purples!!!

    1. My fave is Orly - Hawaiian Punch. My best friend (who's a beautician) bought me it for my birthday 2 years ago and kinda started my addiction!

    2. Orly Iron Butterfly. I was really excited about it. It took about 4 weeks to come from America which added to my excitement and then I applied it and just had to take it off! I think I like the colour but I just find it missing a certain spark!

    3. LOL. This is really the only thing I remember winning. But when I was in primary school I won a miniature garden competition. We all made little gardens in shoeboxes and I won!!! I think I only got a certificate but I was so proud! lol

    4. I would love the magnetic nail varnish from Lancome? It's probably definately worth more than £15 but that one just blows my mind.

    5. We have a beautiful maine coon cat called Smokey and a little kitten (7 weeks old) called Matilda. 2 bunnies called Freckles and Fudge and 2 goldfish. Im afraid I still haven't thought of good names for them :( I could write about them for ages but I won't. I love them lots though :) :) :) <3

    6. My favourite Charity is the RNLI because I think they do an amazing job and think people take them for granted. I am hoping to trek along the Great Wall of China to raise money for them next year!

    7. I am a very caring person.

    8. I had fernando and then a strange word ealier - I though it might be a footballer! Sesorta...I'd like to think it's a type of vegetable lol.

    9. If I'm honest, I don't really think about mental health all that much. So I guess it doesn't really concern a lot.

    10. The company I work for really look after their employees. I have been working with my manager on a personal development plan to help me develop for a promotion :)

    This was fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thanks, Tilly. I had a L'Oreal Magnetic polish but I ebayed it. Oops. RNLI is a bit neglected. Kids and animals top the poll, I'd think, but not from responses so far.
The GW of China! I'll sponsor you.
And I remember gardens in shoeboxes when I was at school in the Pliocene Era.

  8. What a great giveaway and great questions!

    1. No 17's Miami, the perfect bubblegum pink.

    2. Barry M's Tangerine, nowhere near as vibrant as the 1980's version I had.

3 A long weekend in Paris flying BA business class and hotel accomodation on the Champs Elysees, won through a trade magazine 15 years ago. I was horrendously short of money back then and it couldn't have come at a better time.

4 I don't spent that much on clothes!

5 I have three cats and a 34 year old tortoise I've had since I was a kid. Pets make a house a home.

6 I've just lost my Mum to cancer so it's got to be Cancer Research UK.

    7. Good fun and a natural optimist.

8 Sestorta sounds like a sexual preoccupation! I've come across "fart" and "evilness" lately!

9 Unfortunately, yes. My Grandmother had dementia and depression runs in the family.

    10. I have a home office so I can work naked, have food brought to me desk by a willing man and get cuddles from the cats.

    I'm following!

  9. Peripatetic: Wish I had Dreamcatcher! I love BB Couture too. Fistrub! Ha! And your poor cat. I'm glad he found you or you found him! Wish I had cats again but my OH is very much a dog-person. I am too but I love all animals.

VV: I don't spend that much on clothes either! 99p off ebay is more my style But I've seen YOUR style and I can't hold a candle to you. Working naked is very intriguing but I hesitate to ask really...

  10. 1 Your fave pink polish?

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Rose Pink Diamond. This is one of the few polishes that survived the purges I did in the 90s to keep my collection contained in one Caboodles tackle box.

2 The polish you most looked forward to but disappointed you in reality.

I wasn't especially looking forward to it since I was focused on Hidden Treasure at the time, but SH Ring My Shell was my most recent disappointment.

3 The best contest/competition/whatever that you have ever won.

Nail polish wise, I've only won one contest (so far): OPI Have You Seen My Limo? from Pretty in Dayton. Non-polish, I won a college scholarship from my dad's employer--he'd been telling me about it for years leading up to when I'd be eligible, and when I won, he was so proud.

4 For what polish, if any, would you (or have you) paid over £15?

xe.com tells me that's about US$22, so my first Chanel, Illusion d'Or, fits the bill. I've been afraid to try it yet, lest it proves to be not worth the money.

5 Tell me about your pets or thoughts on pets.

I don't have any pets right now, as my work and travel schedule means I wouldn't be around enough to give them a good life. I hope to have pets again some day.

6 Do you have a charity you particularly favour? What is it?

I am big softie, and give to lots of charities--several animal welfare ones, a couple environmental ones, a few disease-related ones.

7 Say something positive about yourself.

I do my best to be kind to others.

8 I have a slight preoccupation with the letters that one has to enter to verify a comment. Here are some recent favourites: entub, normip, sestorta. Do you take any notice of these? Do you have any that have made you laugh? What do you think /sestorta/ might mean????

I notice them but don't remember them. I think sestorta is a refreshing dessert.

9 Is mental health a subject that concerns you?

I sometimes wonder about my own mental health, but figure as long as I can go about my daily activities without wanting to hurt myself or others that I'm doing okay. I think I might do even better if I could talk a doctor into letting my try anti-anxiety meds, but my health insurance plan is not so supportive of that sort of thing.

10 Say something positive about your workplace.

There are many good things about my employer; one is that I don't have to punch a time clock.

  11. Hi, Karen. College scholarship - that is something to celebrate. I kind-of know how hard it is for you guys (US) to manage to get an education as my cousin is American (from Pennsylvania) and I know it's taken her years to get her qualifications and support herself.
    Like your take on sestorta.
I wonder how big that Caboodles box is!
    Thank you!

    1 Your fave pink polish?
I really like Bourjois Fuschia Hype, so easy to apply. I pretty much wear it on my toes all the time.

2 The polish you most looked forward to but disappointed you in reality.
It has to be GOSH holographic, took ages to find one in a shops and then it looks great but have to reapply almost constantly, unless you just sit still and don't use your hands! It’s so pretty though.

3 The best contest/competition/whatever that you have ever won. Gave you the most pleasure - not necessarily the greatest in financial terms.
I used to win colouring competitions at school; the prize was always a bag of chocolate éclairs!

4 For what polish, if any, would you (or have you) paid over £15?
I don't think I've ever paid that for a nail polish. I always think I'd rather have 3 colours from an ordinary range. More colours to play with! :)

5 Tell me about your pets or thoughts on pets.
I have a Siamese/Persian kitty who was 1 year old last week. It's been fun watching him grow up from a tiny little wrecking machine to a fat bummed eating machine that licks my toes to get me out of bed in the morning! I've always had a pet where ever I've lived, but for the last few years I've been renting and pets are normally a no-no. We have a nice landlord now who let us have a cat though, so I'm very happy. I always feel like there’s something missing without a pet to look after.

6 Do you have a charity you particularly favour? What is it?
I don't favour any charity in particular. If there’s a clothes collection put through the door I always fill a bag up with my clothes I no longer wear.

7 Say something positive about yourself.
I finally have a job I enjoy after working every unsocialable/horrible job possible and I am very happy to have my hard work pay off! :D

8 I have a slight preoccupation with the letters that one has to enter to verify a comment. Here are some recent favourites: entub, normip, sestorta. Do you take any notice of these? Do you have any that have made you laugh? What do you think /sestorta/ might mean????
I used to have a folder of silly verification images on my old PC. I can't remember many now, but I did get "loser" before, which made me check my comment in case it made me sound like a loser! Maybe it knew!

9 Is mental health a subject that concerns you?
I study psychology so I have the pleasure of learning the topic of mental health. It always surprises me how little is known about the brain, but I also get to learn how much the brain can adapt too, so it's not all bad! :)

10 Say something positive about your workplace.
I work at my university, so I get the wonderful holidays! Four months with no students and I get to play with all the fun equipment and run tests on people. Beats any of my prior supermarket jobs!

    ReplyDelete
  13. OMG psychology at Uni. Dream job.
Siamese (well, half). I love them. Is it a very vocal cat? What about the Siamese psyche, eh?
GOSH holo was hopeless for me. I swished it along the nail, around the nail, up the nail and it just wouldn't cooperate.
    You're in the "draw".

  14. My cat is very Siamese, he has distinctive meow and is always making these chirping noises. I get woken up in the middle of the night with him roaming around the junk under the bed and chirping to himself! He's strange, but I love him! Though he won't love me later when I take him to the vets for his yearly check up. The cat carrier is out and he isn't happy! :S

  15. I'm in the U.K :)!

1 Your fave pink polish? I don't have a favourite polish. I just use whatever looks good with my outfit

2 The polish you most looked forward to but disappointed you in reality.
i look forward to my future. I want to know what's there for me.I'm really disappointed about how I'm going in my exams. I need to study harder.

3 The best contest/competition/whatever that you have ever won. Gave you the most pleasure - not necessarily the greatest in financial terms.
When I was young I did a drawing competition and I won easter eggs. Loved it so much.

4 For what polish, if any, would you (or have you) paid over £15? I don't know what that is in your currency!
    I haven't paid a polish over £15 before :P

5 Tell me about your pets or thoughts on pets.
I used to have 2 rabbits but they died unfortunately. I loved them to bits! I only love certain pets though. Dislike hamsters, mice but I love small dogs

6 Do you have a charity you particularly favour? What is it?
I like to go to Oxfam and buy their clothes. I remake some of them sometimes.

7 Say something positive about yourself.
I'm a happy person most of the time

8 I have a slight preoccupation with the letters that one has to enter to verify a comment. Here are some recent favourites: entub, normip, sestorta. Do you take any notice of these? Do you have any that have made you laugh? What do you think /sestorta/ might mean????
sorry, I have no clue on what it means

9 Is mental health a subject that concerns you?
I think it's pretty interesting to know about. But nope, doesn't concern me or anyone around me :]

10 Say something positive about your workplace.
Unfortunately, I don't work but I really want to find one now. It's hard to find a job these days.

  16. Hello, Jaljen! I realize that entering your contest on the last day will look wildly opportunistic but I just realized today that you had a blog (which I look forward to reading in the future!)

1 Your fave pink polish? I know pink can be considered beneath the notice of the serious nail-fanatic sometimes.

I am really not a pink person (not because I am a nail polish snob, just because I've never liked pink), but if you have to go pink, you might as well go holo, so maybe Tickle My Triangle?

2 The polish you most looked forward to but disappointed you in reality.

Probably Absolutely Alice. First, because of the color--from the photos I'd seen, it looked like the gold glitter really gave it something special, but on my nails it blended into the blue. And second, because it just does not stay on my nails! I'm not sure why, because Mad as a Hatter stays on like glue, but Alice peels right off entire nails in a day.

3 The best contest/competition/whatever that you have ever won. Gave you the most pleasure - not necessarily the greatest in financial terms.

In middle school, I got the highest score of the grade in the Math Olympiad and got called up in front of everyone to get my trophy; I was beyond proud! Also in my much younger years one of my entries won a Dishonorable Mention in the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest for worst opening sentence to a novel, and I was insanely thrilled.

4 For what polish, if any, would you (or have you) paid over £15? I don't know what that is in your currency!

No polish! I have to keep some bastion of sanity amidst the temptation of nail polish madness.

5 Tell me about your pets or thoughts on pets.

I am basically allergic to every pet in existence. Though I like most pets as individuals, I am leery of getting any myself because of the extreme commitment (can't rent a pet-free apartment, can't take off for the weekend on impulse or even go out for the night without making arrangements).

6 Do you have a charity you particularly favour? What is it?

Lately I have been donating to Kiva, which I like because it helps people build profitable businesses (which let them continue to sustain themselves in the future without donations) and you get your money paid back so you can lend it to someone else. So I can help tons of people out with the same $50.

7 Say something positive about yourself.

I am composed of a lot of protons!

8 I have a slight preoccupation with the letters that one has to enter to verify a comment. Here are some recent favourites: entub, normip, sestorta. Do you take any notice of these? Do you have any that have made you laugh? What do you think /sestorta/ might mean????

I love verification words! I imagine sesorta is something Spanish, perhaps a classy but fun afternoon party where all the guests are eating chips and making witty chit-chat.

9 Is mental health a subject that concerns you?

It does concern me when I think about it, but I can't say that it is something I think about a great deal. I do very much like reading about neurological disorders in the books of Dr. Oliver Sacks (one of my favorite authors).

10 Say something positive about your workplace.
Well, any place that would hire me by definition has excellent taste!
