Jessica My Cabana Boy - coral creme

I must be quick as I have one of those missives from the postperson inviting me to collect 2 (yes, TWO) parcels! Can only be nail bobbins. Unless a mysterious admirer has decided to send me unsolicited gifts! Probably not...

Bought because it was cheaper than usual.
I believe I can't wear orange/peach and. by extension, coral. So - time to test my theory.
This (above) is 2 coats + GOSH Rainbow because...

I saw this photo and realised that it was streaky. Ah, the power of the camera lens!
This is with topcoat because it does dry matte to semi-matte.
So I added a 3rd coat. Yer real professional routinely does 3 (polishaddict - sadly too busy with important legal affairs to upkeep her blog) minimum. And then got the matte effect again.

I bought ridge filler (for blindingly obvious reasons) and £10 (I kid you not) on a nail file. A Leighton Denny crystal nail file. The larger one was £14!!!
The small one is smaller and has a box. Now the big one had no box. That's not sensible. I wanted the case/container for that money. And who needs a big nail file anyway? A person with big hands and that's not me.
My previous nail filing (when done at all) was with any old emery board/match box I could find at the drop of a beret. And to be frank you could tell. You could definitely tell.

Even more bizarrely the other hand is coral too. I never do that. My hands are always asymmetrical. Not the same corals as THIS hand but at a casual glance you'd think I had matched hands today. Not entirely comfortable with that. I look as if I might be acting my age. Eeek. Worse. Old-lady coral.

Believe me, the other hand is way better.
I think the Jessica is a lovely polish for some people. I don't dislike it but I'm going to have to go Twilight or something soon.

Let's have a not-so-heated debate.
Do you file nails damp or dry?
Do you resent spending money on a nail file?
Do you use ridge filler?
Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours?

I thank you
Jenni-FUR (all that dog hair I haven't yet shaken off)

  1. Lovin' that coral shade. I've just removed my toe nail polish and am using the Barry M Orange, which ain't nowhere are good as it was in the eighties, blast it.

    1. I thought nails had to be filed when dry?
    2. I've just purchased a Ms Manicure curved file from Poundland, so not too painful really.
    3. Ridge filler, nah! The curry and alcohol diet obviously keeps my nails nice and smooth.
    4. I don't like spending my money on anything. The cheaper the better for this cheapskate chick!

    See ya soon!

  2. Do you file nails damp or dry? Dry, absolutely.

Do you resent spending money on a nail file? I own a nailtek crystal nail file (one of the larger ones) and I love it, and I got it as a present so nope! (It's worth about $25!)

Do you use ridge filler? No, but only because I've never tried it.

Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours? I have terrible skin, so preparation (lotions and hydration specifically) are very important to me.

  3. I just bought the exact same nail file a few weeks ago!

I thought i may as well seeing as it has a lifetime warranty and crystal files are supposed to be good.

I really like it so far and i always file dry nails :)

  4. So, I file my nails usually when wet but if I need to file during the work day I use my crystal file from Sephora and I don't resent buying any file, I love the feeling and sound, just not the smell!
No ridge filler for me, I kinda like the look of ridged nails but I personally don't have any ridges. =/ I have one wonky thumb from an injury but there isn't enough ridge filler in the world to help that!
I think I spend more money on colours but I would like to spend more on my skin, I def. spend more on my face skin!

  5. Ooh nice colour.

I'm a little bit confused by the questions/giveaway thing but here goes:-

1 My fave pink polish is Nails Inc Shoreditch, unashamedly girlie and I love the blue flash.

2 I was disappointed by Nails Inc Union Street, see my blog for the streaky mess.

3 Best competition would be a giveaway on a blog recently- 5 bits of MAC makeup of my choice!

4 Not in a position to pay as much as £15 a polish at the min, but I'd like to have one or 2 Chanel polishes in the collection one day.

5 I've never had a pet but I can't wait to get a puppy, I really want a golden retriever.

6 I fundraise for Breakthrough Breast Cancer as well as supporting Cancer Research.

7 I make amazing chocolate fudge cake, seriously it's incredible.

8 I love those word verifying things too! I got "Nazi swim" on Facebook recently!

9 I am interested in mental health yes, particularly people who are taken advantage of because of their situation.

10 I work with 3 people who make me laugh every day and I look forward to seeing them at 9 am.

  6. Vix: Curry and booze. That must be where I'm going wrong. The clogs deserve a big pic IMO.
Nailsssss:So what products work for your skin?
Veg: Yep, I noticed the guarantee. Hope I don't have to invoke it. Mustn't drop them apparently....
Aggie: I read you were supposed to wet them BUT then I read you weren't supposed to. Who knows these things? The burning smell. OO!!
P&P: Yes, anywhere will do for the giveaway. I must check out Shoreditch. Sounds as if I'd like it. Nazi swim! Gracious. Don't let a puppy near your cake. Chocolate is bad for dogs and retrievers are fearfully greedy. Good to have amusing colleagues.

  8. Thank you, Rebekah.
The Claire's file is a proper crystal one? Then why is the LD object five times as much? I think I may have been kippered.

  9. This coral looks great on you! I think you can definitely wear this one.

Do you file nails damp or dry? Dry
Do you resent spending money on a nail file? Nope, I love my glass file.
Do you use ridge filler? Sometimes, depends how crappy my nails are looking.
Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours? Tough one. You need both (rubbish fence-sitting I know, but I genuinely can't pick!)

  10. I know I'm ignorant but glass and crystal files are the same or not? What's the difference, if any?
Thanks, Rebecca. Yes, the coral works OK with my skin at this time of year.Perhaps it suits everyone?

  11. Do you file nails damp or dry?

NEVER WET. NEVER WITHOUT POLISH! I always mess them up if i shape without polish

Do you resent spending money on a nail file?

NO! changed my life, though my most expensive was only $12. I love my OPI the best, but I have a lot of backups bc they are easy to break, Sephora, Essie (mini), Nailtek (mini) Nailtek (broken but I refuse to throw it away)

    Do you use ridge filler?

No, i only have ridges on my right thumb which i never photograph so i just ignore, only shows up with holos.

Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours?

preparation... good color is still bad on bad finners.

This was fun! I like the coral. i still don't have any Jessica's will have to rectify that soon!

  12. Thank you, Ms Insomniac. Why can't you throw it away? The broken Nailtek?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Because if I had paid for it, it would have been $25! And I have the bigger half!

  14. OOh, that looks HAWT with the gosh over it!
Do you file nails damp or dry? Dry, and more recently, while I still have polish on.
Do you resent spending money on a nail file? I spent less than $4.00 on the ASP crystal file from Sally Beauty supply. I like that it's large - more area for me to use.
Do you use ridge filler? Rarely
Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours? (singing)COLORS!

  18. Susie: Your nails and hands are so lovely I should have known you spent money on the prep. That's where I'm going wrong.
